About Travels With Granddad
Granddad is an interactive storytelling project using puppets for Year One children, created by Pickled Image and Toby Hulse with the financial support of Arts Council England.
Children meet a loveable adventurer in his tent of weird and wonderful souvenirs, and over the course of a half day make stories inspired by the things that they discover.
The project is designed to stimulate and provoke young children’s imaginations, develop their verbal storytelling and stretch their investigative skills. ‘Granddad’ arrives in the school with no prepared history – not even a name – and his character and life are created anew every day in response to the children he meets. His job is to encourage, inspire and validate, by the simple trick of saying ‘Yes’ to as many ideas as possible.
The project is accompanied by a half day’s training for teachers looking at using imaginative and creative play with the children, and new approaches to capturing and evaluating young people’s work in schools.
